Jack & Jones Media Preview at Yorkdale Shopping Centre

20 Oct

2013-10-17 20.40.38The newest Jack & Jones location, which opened at Yorkdale Shopping Centre on Friday, October 18th, 2013, was welcomed with a massive line of shoppers that could not wait for the doors to open.  The $1 denim promotion for the first 50 customers in line was most definitely a huge incentive for a shopping trip to the new store!

On Thursday, October 18th, 2013, the media was invited for a sneak peek at the newest location which featured a presentation of the latest trends and newest collection; as well as delicious hors d’oeuvres, drinks, music and mingling.

I have been a fan of Jack & Jones from when I was first introduced to the brand when I styled a few looks for a project I was working on for Bramalea City Centre in Brampton, Ontario last year. I love how versatile they are with their pieces. Men don’t have to have a set style to shop there; from their Premium by Jack & Jones collection to their Originals by Jack & Jones collection, it’s all under one roof.

The Yorkdale Shopping Centre location is my favourite for their rustic touches and the way their store has been laid out. I spoke to the Manager of Visual Merchandising who seems very caring of the look of the store as it was evident he took a lot of pride in his work and was even open to suggestions.

Below is a glimpse of what the new store has to offer:

The Originals by Jack & Jones collection is described as hip and trend-driven. It’s for the guy on-the-go who is laid back, yet has a unique style. The pieces remind me London street fashion; and I personally love it! Whether you are attending class or going for a walk down Queen St. West, the Originals by Jack & Jones collection is for you!

The denim section, I believe, is the highlight of the store. There are various styles, cuts and washes to suit any look that you are going for. I would definitely recommend taking some time to get fitted for the best style for your comfort and preference. The sales associates definitely seemed to be on their toes when it came to fit!

The footwear section was another highlight of the store. I LOVE a good boot! Especially when it is paired with a great fitting pair of jeans! The wide variety of styles, from runners to dress shoes, complimented the pieces throughout the store very well. In other words, it would be difficult for me to leave without a pair of shoes to match any other purchases. But that’s not a bad thing, is it?

The Premium by Jack & Jones collection made an immediate fan out of me. Must have been the prints of the dress shirts, to the fabrics, and stand out pockets on the jackets from the multiple tones used. The variety of bow ties were a plus! I really enjoy the European influences that were evident throughout the collection. The icing on the cake is the Christopher Walken appearance on their campaign video, “Made From Cool”. Craftsmanship and dedication are definitely a clear feature of this collection.

Jack and Jones Collage 4
With the cold weather coming up, Jack & Jones had various options for winter wear. The soft interior lining of the winter coats is definitely going to keep you warm this winter. For fall, their vests and lighter jackets were very fitting of this season’s trends. Grey, navy and black were the dominant colours. The  yellow and maroon hats and scarves highlight the darker winter wear colours.

Overall, the media preview seemed to be a success. Kudos for the delicious chocolate covered strawberries and great service! I definitely recommend you visit the store for yourself as there is so much more to see beyond the images. So much more to shop for too!

Daddy Yankee “Prestige Tour 2011” Live in Toronto!

19 Aug

“DADDY YANKEE! DADDY YANKEE!” was all that could be heard as a stadium full of fans chanted minutes before the artist, Daddy Yankee, took the stage on July 23rd, 2011 at the Powerade Centre. It was the first time that Daddy Yankee visited Canada and he was very excited to be here to perform for his Toronto fans. The night before, July 22nd, I attended the press conference that was held for Toronto media to get a closer look and idea of what the artist was about; particularly when it came to his upcoming album, his tour and other projects that the artist is working on. For more details on the press conference click here for my previous post on the event.

Crown Loyalty Entertainment, Mynt Productions and Icaro Booking Services worked together to bring us THE concert of the summer; particularly for the Latin American community of Toronto and the GTA. Daddy Yankee fans have waited with patience for years for this production to finally come to reality in Toronto and it was a pleasure having the artist here for the one night Prestige Tour 2011 stop. Fito Blanko and El Cata opened for Daddy Yankee and were truly successful in getting the crowd pumped up and excited for main performance. Toronto based artist, Fito Blanko, performed some of his hit songs such as his way back hit “Take Her Home”. El Cata followed Fito with his performance of “Loca” and the two artists then finalized the opening of the show with a duo performance of “VIP”.  Both Fito Blanko and El Cata had the audience on their feet and dancing in preparation of DY to hit the stage; the audience could NOT wait! Below are pictures of Fito Blanko and El Cata during their performances:

Daddy Yankee hit the stage along with his male dancers, dressed up in robotic like outfits, and opened his show by performing one of his greatest hits “Descontrol”. The crowd went INSANE! There was nothing that could be done to calm the excitement that the crowd experience when DY hit the stage; immediately everyone was dancing, singing and shouting at the highly anticipated performer. Daddy Yankee continued the show by performing many more of his top hits that have brought him and have kept him at the rise of his career; and he even free styled about Toronto at one point during the show. The audience, which ranged from approximately 5 years old to people in the 50s, was an accurate reflection of the audience that Daddy Yankee’s music reaches and impacts. At one point during the show, a little boy got up on stage and break danced to one of the songs; which entertained not only the crowd by DY as well since he paused during the songs for he could not help but smirk at the show that the little boy was putting on for everyone. Who knows? We may have experienced the little future star’s first time on stage.

Daddy Yankee’s performance was a true success and everything the crowd had expected in the artist’s first visit to Toronto. Everyone had an amazing time at the show; the crowd sang and danced non stop to DY’s top hits from the beginning of his career to his most popular songs of today. Scroll down below for more shots of the artist that I took throughout the show. For those who attended the concert, I am sure you have the perfect idea of how great the production turned out to be; and for those that did not hopefully you caught Daddy Yankee’s Calgary show on August 20th to get an idea on what you missed out on. I am confident Daddy Yankee will return to Toronto on his next tour date and I definitely cannot wait to see him live in concert once again.

Daddy Yankee “Prestige Tour 2011” Press Conference

19 Aug

On July 22nd, 2011, a press conference was held in Toronto as part of Daddy Yankee’s Prestige Tour 2011. Media from all over Toronto, from TLNTV to What’s Good Toronto, attended the press conference to get an up close and personal insight as to the successful singer’s tour among other projects that he is currently working on. Daddy Yankee, a world recognized Puerto Rican reggaeton artist, was in Toronto for the first time in his career for a long awaited performance at the Powerade Centre on July 23rd, 2011.

Toronto based artist and president of Crown Entertainment, Fito Blanko, was the host for the evening. Crown Loyalty Entertainment partnered with Mynt Entertainment in order to produce the much anticipated event; as well as with Icaro which is Daddy Yankee’s official booking agency. It is amazing to finally have Daddy Yankee in Toronto and particularly be a part of all the events surrounding his visit.

As professional as all the media representatives were in attendance it was hard to hide the excitement that everyone felt to get a closer look at Daddy Yankee. He entered the room with a bright smile and right away was ready to take on all of our questions; both in english and in spanish. DY spoke of the fuel that he obtains from being true to himself, as well as the energy that the fans and family bring him to perform every day to its fullest. DY also discussed the critical need for artists to recognize their talents and use them to the fullest; which he stated as key features of forming a great artist. Previous work was discussed such as his movie, Talento De Barrio, which was the highest grossing film in Puerto Rico; and new projects were also brought up like an upcoming album which will feature many collaborations with various artists. Charity projects by the artist were also talked about, such as Corazon Guerrero, which is his personal charity that collects funds to aid youth with post secondary scholarships. From noticing that youth were an important aspects of Daddy Yankee’s views, I asked him what his message was for Latin American youth in North America were; since Latino youth have one of the highest drop out rates and are portrayed as causing trouble within their communities. Daddy Yankee responded that it was important for youth to keep their family close, stay in school and keep the belief in God close to you. He then went on to discuss the importance of an education beyond high school for people to be truly successful in life; this showed the substance beyond the artist and the  care that he has in his audiences and fans. In relation to the messages that the audiences receive from the artist, a media professional asked  about the music ratings and explicit lyrics that are linked to Daddy Yankee’s music; which he replied by stating the similarities between music and movies in the way that some are rated G, PG, R and so on. Another question that I asked the artist in relation to his music was related to the reasons behind him being so true to his spanish roots when it came to the language of his music; particularly with all the pressures that Latin American artists have to produce english albums when trying to break into the North American markets. He responded that by stating that he wanted to conquer with his own roots and performing in spanish also gives him a chance to perform with different types of cultures and artists from different backgrounds since music is universal. Last but not least, a question that many people have debated and discussed was brought up; is reggaeton dead? Daddy Yankee responded this by stating that reggaeton has changed and evolved in a snowball kind of effect; yet no matter what it will keep it’s roots as 100% musica de la calle (musica of the streets).

Daddy Yankee was very welcoming to everyone’s questions, answered all of them the best way that he could and explained himself thoroughly. It was truly a pleasure to interact with the artist and hear his perspective on many aspects of his industry and life. Fito Blanko was also great in that he was out in the lobby of the press conference room socializing with everyone which truly showed how down to earth these two artists are. I had a chance to chat with Fito Blanko, we are in the image above, who was super pumped for the event; particularly to be performing at the concert with El Cata. I am personally very grateful that Fito Blanko and Crown Entertainment made this huge event happen since it was long overdue! For more details on the concert itself check out the following blog post!

YYZ Living Magazine Summer Issue Launch Party!

28 Jun

On June 16th I had THE most amazing time at the YYZ Living Magazine Summer Issue Launch Party at Ultra Nightclub. We arrived for the 8pm media reception and mingled with some of the most fun in the industry as we sipped on Moet Champagne and enjoyed some delicious oh d’oeuvres. It was hardly passed 8pm and the event was on full swing with everyone catching up in their best spring/summer outfits on the roof top patio at Ultra. Here are some photos taken by Owen McLeod for YYZ Living (you can find the rest on their FB page):

At the launch party there were bloggers, investors, designers, entertainers; the list really went on and on. YYZ Living Magazine brought out the top within Toronto’s industries together, which is truly a reflection of what the magazine is really about; joining the chic and luxurious of the city under one cover, and in the case of this event under one roof.

Spiro Mandylor (It’s All Style To Me) & Zaigham Zulqernain (The House of Bamboo)

Adrian Wu (Designer)

Ainsley Kerr

Andy Jones (Designer)

Pat McDonagh (Designer)

From the images above, it is evident that there were a lot of  familiar faces in attendance and the event was a true success! The 10pm reception, which allowed for the general public to attend and celebrate the launch of the new summer issue with the YYZ Group by RSVP-ing prior to the event date, caused the Ultra patio to reach capacity shortly after the 10pm start time. It was brilliant to have the magazine give the public an opportunity to take part in such a huge and successful event, it really displayed the way that the magazine really wants to bring Toronto together through its publication.
If you attended the launch, I hope you had a brilliant time!

William & Kate: Royal Wedding Highlights

2 May

Will & Kate Engagement Photos

Royal wedding highlights from the dress, to the bouquet, to the jewels and veil directly from me, who pulled an all-nighter to catch the best of the royal wedding live and direct from London. Kate Middleton looked so calm and serene as her car drove up to the Westminster Abbey and as she walked down the aisle to meet her awaiting Prince. One of the best caught moments was Harry cracking jokes at the Prince as Kate walked up to him. The Prince’s response to his oh so long awaiting bride? “You’re beautiful”; all a girl wants to hear on her wedding day from her Prince.

The details of the dress were by far one of the best kept secrets in society since…forever? There were rumours as of last night that Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen was the dress designer since she was seen sneaking into Kate’s hotel; and indeed it was Sarah Burton herself who not only designed Kate’s dress but her sister Pippa’s as well.

Kate Middleton in her wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen

I was a huge fan of the lace on Kate’s dress which really brought out a classy  and feminine side to the dress, as well as added character. It was evident that Kate was quite involved in the design since it is very much reflective of her simple and modern side, all while not forgetting the traditional aspects. Her shoes were also designed by the McQueen House.

Kate Middleton wore a Cartier tiara the queen received on her 18th birthday

Kate’s Cartier tiara was given to the queen on her 18th birthday and worn by her of course on many occasions; and it came to no surprise that everyone was in shock and could not get over the gorgeous Cartier tiara once its history and details were confirmed.

Kate Middleton's Bouquet

Kate’s bouquet was made up of a mixture of gorgeous flowers that represented happiness, love, friendship and marriage. The bouquet was significant of many aspects that she wants as part of her marriage.

The Famous Balcony Kiss

The second most anticipated event of the royal wedding, after the revelation of the dress of course, was the balcony kiss by the couple following their wedding ceremony. They had practiced and practiced to make sure they go this kiss just right!; since it is going to me on most, if not all, media outlets around the world for many years to come. William and Kate, who were named the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had to ensure they had an excellent camera angle as they kissed since without a doubt their famous balcony kiss will be displayed on stamps, memorabilia and so on; not only in magazines, news papers and television.

The wedding was magical and reflective of the fairy tale that most of us girls dream of. It was particularly an exciting experience to watch the wedding live since it is an occassion not everyone gets to experience. I truly wish Kate and Will the best for the future and believe they will do a fantastic job at taking over the roles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In a few more years you will get to watch my wedding with Prince Harry..a girl can dream right??

LOISAIDAS in Toronto! Mucha Bachata!

11 Mar

Loisaidas, the bachateros from lower east side Manhattan, were in Toronto Friday March 4th, 2011 for their debut show here in Canada. I had the chance of hanging out with the boys for an exclusive interview prior to their show at Las Brisas Nightclub which turned out to be a full house event.

I arrived to the conference room of the hotel they were staying at to have Aquiles open the door with a welcoming smile, and I must admit his good looks definitely struck me but also proved to me what a warm and down to earth gentlemen he truly is. A couple of minutes later, Isaiah joined us in the conference room and right away noticed his shy yet charming presence. As I had mentioned in my previous post on Loisaidas, the boys proved themselves to be so real, not only thru their music but thru the way that they presented themselves. Watch the video below to check out the full interview and judge for yourself!

Following the interview I headed over to Las Brisas Nightclub to check out the show and of course the boys did not disappoint! The crowd was very excited to have them there and welcomed them by singing along to every one of the song lyrics, and even by requesting songs which the boys gladly accepted. Even with technical difficulties of Isaiah’s keyboard the boys definitely put on a show and once they got the keyboard working Isaiah played a beautiful solo which truly showcased his talent. Check out the following video so you can get a glimpse of the performance:

Loisaidas performed their top hits like “Ayer” and “No Me Dejes” and complimented their performance by inviting two ladies on stage with them, one got sang to by Aquiles and the other danced bachata with Isaiah. But of course, I got the icing on the Loisaidas cake when Isaiah walked on stage and warmly smiled at me and Aquiles sang directly to me during their first song. Below are some pictures from their performance:

Loisaidas on stage at Brisas Nightclub

Aquiles on stage at Brisas Nightclub

Isaiah on stage at Brisas Nightclub

Overall, Aquiles and Isaiah were really excited about performing and being in Canada, even with the delays they experienced at the Canadian border and the chaotically short trip.  I am still incredibly surprised to learn that Isaiah is not of Latin American decent yet he has this passion for bachata as music and as art to not only perform it but create it. It is evident that both Isaiah and Aquiles have an insane amount of talent and there is no doubt that the approach they are currently taking towards the industry will bring them a long way. Below is an image of the boys and I following their interview:

Loisaidas and I after the exclusive interview

There is no question that no matter how big the struggles are that the boys face within the industry, as they mentioned in the interview, they should still continue to fight since they have so much talent. Even though it is still fairly early in their careers they have achieved so much and have been recognized in ways that other artists still strive for. The attitudes that Loisaidas has towards the industry will definitely take them a long way, they are true to their roots and constantly remind themselves that ‘it is just music”; yet it is music that they create which touches the hearts of so many bachateros and bachateras. It was a pleasure spending time with Aquiles and Isaiah and I definitely hope they come back for another performance in the near future. Oh and ladies, Isaiah is not being treated too well by us so next time he’s in town let’s be sure to show him our love and attention!

For more information on Loisaidas check out their Facebook Fan Page , their Twitter account and of course www.loisaidas.net.
