Top 5 Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas!

24 Dec

Procrastinators unite!

I’m guilty as charged when it comes to last minute Christmas shopping. Year after year, no matter how hard I have tried to not do it, I have gone out on a mission on Christmas Eve to hunt down gifts for my loved ones. I have learned the hard way to avoid shopping malls at all costs. But I’m stubborn, so I still somehow think I will overcome all the chaos successfully. I do! But at a high cost of rush and huge crowds!

This is why I have compiled a list of the top 5 last minute Christmas gift ideas to help you have an easier time on your last minute shopping mission. The best part is that we’re going to avoid shopping malls with these easy breezy suggestions!

1) Gift cards for everyone!

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

Shoppers Drug Mart is THE BEST for all kinds of last minute gift card purchases. They have an array of retailers, entertainment and restaurant options available; such as Indigo, Banana Republic, Cineplex, The Keg and many more. If you aren’t sure of which option to go with, I suggest picking up a MasterCard Prepaid Card since it will allow for endless possibilities for the person you are gifting it to. Of course, you can get a nice Christmas card to go with it in the same store; therefore you really are set!

2) DIY Christmas Coupon Book

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

If you usually opt for a DIY option, this is the idea for you! A Christmas Coupon Book Printable is personalized and so unique. I have gifted these before for various occasions and they are always appreciated and loved! These are definitely best for someone you are close to; like your parents or for your partner. You can add items like a massage, breakfast in bed, letting them pick the movie for movie night, etc. Get creative with it!

3) Starbucks Gift Sets

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

Starbucks is fabulous for last minute gift shopping on-the-go! I am a huge Starbucks fan and always seem to find great gift ideas season after season when I am in the coffee shop. Whether you have a tea or coffee drinker on your list, you can opt for a Brew By The Cup Gift Set (pictured above) or a mix ‘n match mug or tumbler with a box of delicious Tazo tea. I recommend Zen for green tea drinkers. Adding a gift card is always nice too! If you ask nicely, a barista is always willing to add some tissue paper to your take-away bag to make it look like a sweet ready to gift present.

4) Find it at Winners!

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

Winners is that one stop shop for just about everything! What I did love about them this holiday season is the amount of gift sets they had, ranging from candles to perfumes, and all the delicious chocolate boxes and sets. I found a fabulous Godiva  Mini Fondue Set, as well as Godiva Hot Chocolate Set for great prices! Don’t forget about Homesense since they also have similar choices with more of a home decor flare.

5) A Christmas Ornament with Love

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas

A Christmas ornament is such an adorable touch to any Christmas gift! Especially one as memorable as a Hallmark keepsake ornament with the year that is was gifted on it. But what’s love got to do with it? Not only is this gift given with love, but a hand written note is always a sweet touch. I suggest writing something lovely along with a brunch/lunch/dinner invite included. This is perfect for someone who you don’t see as often as you’d like. You will cover the expense of your next get together as part of their gift, include a nice Christmas card and a memorable ornament. I would love this from any of my best girl friends!

Hope my top 5 last minute Christmas gift ideas help you out on the chaos that forms when you try to shop on Christmas Eve. Comment below and let me know how my ideas helped get you out of a last minute Christmas shopping rut!

I’m SO Vain!

17 Jul

Ladies, singles and in groups, dashed into Vogue Supperclub on Saturday, June 25th for the much anticipated “I’m So Vain” event organized by V:Space Studio and Ilaika. All attendees, dressed in their most fashionable spring/summer outfits while all dolled-up, looked very excited to arrive to the event that encouraged them to embrace and celebrate beauty procedures and treatments beyond a visit to Sephora or MAC Cosmetics.

The main goal of the event was to educate and allow women to indulge in different services and procedures directly from the professionals. Some of the companies in attendance were Winks Eyelash Boutique, Skin Spa & Cosmetic Clinic Malibu Sugar, Beautifully Bare Hi-Tech Spa, and Live It Up Events. The services ranged from laser hair removal to eyelash extensions to even botox parties; which definitely allowed us ladies to embrace our oh-so-vain characteristics.

The guests walked along booth to booth in order to get, not only information about different treatments and products, but special one time only guest offers that many ladies took advantage of. The guest also enjoyed delicious oh d’ouvres and drinks to influence mingling and discussing of the event and what it had to offer. The event also had a special Diet Coke trailer, partnered with Joe Fresh, which had a lounge set up for ladies to touch up their look as they continued to enjoy the event; and of course, were handed Diet Cokes in the cutest little glass
bottles to keep everyone’s thirst quenched! The trailer displayed some pieces
from the Joe Fresh “Fresh off the Runway” collection for ladies to look

The event most definitely allowed women to come together and celebrate beauty treatments, that may seem god’s gifts to some but taboo to others; but most importantly encouraged the guests to be educated on safe and professionally performed treatments. For more information on this event and for a full vendor list, you can check out the official I’m So Vain Blog by clicking
. So remember ladies, when we feel the need to be oh-so vain and try
out some of these procedures, ensure that you are well educated and don’t ever
be shy to ask questions!

A Passion For Fashion Awards by YES & TFI

14 May

Last summer, I wrote a post on fashion business based workshops brought to you by Youth Employment Services (YES) and Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI), “A Passion for Fashion”. After the completion of all 6 workshops there was a chance to enter the “Fashionista’s Den” competition where the winner was to obtain a chance at an exclusive one year membership with TFI, $1000 to get your business started and 50 hours of business advisory and fashion mentorship.

On April 27th, 2011 The Passion For Fashion Awards were held at the Drake Hotel and hosted by the organizer and coordinator of the workshops, Gail McInnes. The top 10 finalists were present along with their business plans which were required to be completed in order to enter the Fashionista’s Den. We were able to look through the extensive business plans and it was evident that the finalists and contestants worked very hard and put a lot of time and effort to get to their top 10 spots.

All of the finalists were introduced one by one by Gail McInnes along with a slide of their presentations so the audience got an idea of what their fashion business plans were and what they were trying to establish throughout their journey at A Passion For Fashion. Finally, Bonnie Yam (as pictured above with Gail) was announced as the winner of the Fashionista’s Den, who has a jewellery line by the name of “Roxx”. I remember sitting next to Bonnie during the workshops and she was always a sweet and attentive girl consistent at willing to learn, never did I think her jewellery line would be beyond gorgeous! When I saw the look book and her business plan I was blown away at the caliber of detail, uniqueness and elegance of her pieces.

The event was a true success and there is no doubt that all of the finalists will walk away with knowledge of the industry and experience that they could not have received anywhere else but at the Passion for Fashion workshops by YES & TFI. In case you are interested in entering the Fashionista’s Den or attending the free workshops by YES, or even getting more information on the program, check out the Passion for Fashion link above.

William & Kate: Royal Wedding Highlights

2 May

Will & Kate Engagement Photos

Royal wedding highlights from the dress, to the bouquet, to the jewels and veil directly from me, who pulled an all-nighter to catch the best of the royal wedding live and direct from London. Kate Middleton looked so calm and serene as her car drove up to the Westminster Abbey and as she walked down the aisle to meet her awaiting Prince. One of the best caught moments was Harry cracking jokes at the Prince as Kate walked up to him. The Prince’s response to his oh so long awaiting bride? “You’re beautiful”; all a girl wants to hear on her wedding day from her Prince.

The details of the dress were by far one of the best kept secrets in society since…forever? There were rumours as of last night that Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen was the dress designer since she was seen sneaking into Kate’s hotel; and indeed it was Sarah Burton herself who not only designed Kate’s dress but her sister Pippa’s as well.

Kate Middleton in her wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen

I was a huge fan of the lace on Kate’s dress which really brought out a classy  and feminine side to the dress, as well as added character. It was evident that Kate was quite involved in the design since it is very much reflective of her simple and modern side, all while not forgetting the traditional aspects. Her shoes were also designed by the McQueen House.

Kate Middleton wore a Cartier tiara the queen received on her 18th birthday

Kate’s Cartier tiara was given to the queen on her 18th birthday and worn by her of course on many occasions; and it came to no surprise that everyone was in shock and could not get over the gorgeous Cartier tiara once its history and details were confirmed.

Kate Middleton's Bouquet

Kate’s bouquet was made up of a mixture of gorgeous flowers that represented happiness, love, friendship and marriage. The bouquet was significant of many aspects that she wants as part of her marriage.

The Famous Balcony Kiss

The second most anticipated event of the royal wedding, after the revelation of the dress of course, was the balcony kiss by the couple following their wedding ceremony. They had practiced and practiced to make sure they go this kiss just right!; since it is going to me on most, if not all, media outlets around the world for many years to come. William and Kate, who were named the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had to ensure they had an excellent camera angle as they kissed since without a doubt their famous balcony kiss will be displayed on stamps, memorabilia and so on; not only in magazines, news papers and television.

The wedding was magical and reflective of the fairy tale that most of us girls dream of. It was particularly an exciting experience to watch the wedding live since it is an occassion not everyone gets to experience. I truly wish Kate and Will the best for the future and believe they will do a fantastic job at taking over the roles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In a few more years you will get to watch my wedding with Prince Harry..a girl can dream right??

“Less is More” With Celebrity Make-Up Artist Paul Venoit

21 Apr

On Thursday, April 19th, 2011 we attended an event at the ROM with special guest celebrity make-up artist  and beauty expert Paul Venoit. The night was brought to us by High Road Communications and hosted by the lovely Gail McInnes of Magnet Creative. It was a private and exclusive event to raise awareness and promote a new product that will aid us in dealing with terrible cold sores which turned out to be a truly wonderful gathering of some wonderful people in the industry. The event promoting ColdSoreFX, from the makers of the life saving ColdFX,  brought out Theresa Kim of YYZ Living Magazine, Septembre Anderson of J’Adore Fashion Blog, as well as Ally Lesniak and Dani Goddard of GirlsofTO.

Paul Venoit & Myself

Paul Venoit informed us during his presentation as to how to treat cold sores, which turn out to be a more common  than we think issue when it comes to make up artistry. His message was “Less is more!”; in the case of a cold sore we must lightly brush over it with a concealer fading it away rather than covering it up. Paul also made it clear that we must never, ever bring out red or pink lipsticks or glosses in an attempt to camouflage them since that will fail miserably! Following his presentation the attendees of the event were invited to get make-up touch ups by one of Paul Venoit’s leading make-up professionals, who by the way did a brilliant job. We then proceeded to take picture and mingle with Paul who is a delightful individual, full of energy and fun.

Paul Venoit of Look-A-Like (the TV Show), who has worked with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift, educated us against the stereotypes and myths of cold sores that many people have relating them to sexually transmitted diseases or infections; which is in fact not true. They can happen to anyone at any point in time and it is important that we learn about them and learn how to treat them. Paul Venoit has tried out the new product Cold Sore FX and swears by it since according to his conclusion through using the product it is effective and it works! So if cold sores are an issue for you always remember, beauty expert Paul Venoit finds it very effective and when it comes to coverage, less is more!
