Top Advent Calendars This Holiday Season!

20 Nov

I love advent calendars! The fact that you get a treat every day leading up to Christmas is a true joy in my books! As a little girl, my parents would get my brother and I chocolate advent calendars and I remember how difficult it was to not eat a few at once. Even though I did cheat once or twice (Oops!).

If I thought chocolate advent calendars were tough to be patient with, I am definitely in for a treat! Now that I am a grown lady, I have graduated from chocolate to more exciting items. Lucky for me, various brands have grown with me and made their advent calendars that much more exciting  as well! From nail polish to delicious tea – I want it all!

Here is a list, in no particular order, of the top 5 must-have advent calendars for this holiday season!

1) 12 Days of Essie

Essie, Nail Polish, Nail Art, Beauty, Cosmetics

It is no secret that Essie is one of my favourite nail polish brands of all time. So of course, this advent calendar stood out to me right away! 12 Days of Essie includes full size nail polish in various shades, Sleek Stick Nail appliques, and other wonderful surprises. This advent calendar can be purchased at Luxe Boutique for $68.00.

2) The Body Shop 2013 Advent Calendar Gift Set

The Body Shop, Gift Set, Beauty, Advent Calendar, Skin Care

One thing I particularly love about The Body Shop 2013 Advent Calendar Gift Set is the variety! There are 24 items in total varying from body lotion, to body butter, to lip gloss, and the list goes on. This is a highly coveted item so I suggest you get yours asap! They are available, in limited quantities, at all The Body Shop locations for $75.00.

3) 24 Days of Tea

David's Tea, Advent, Advent Calendar, Christmas, Holiday Season

If you are the type to wrap up a long day with a cup of tea right before bed, like myself, this advent calendar was made for you! Especially if you’re a fan of David’s Tea! Imagine savouring a different type of tea for the 24 days leading up to Christmas…. Bliss! This item is a must-have for tea lovers; which is probably why it is sold out online, but you can still find it in stores for $34.50.

4) Ciate Mini Mani Month

Ciate, Sephora, Manicure, Nails, Beauty, Nail Art

Ciate has released the cutest mini mani advent calendar ever! It includes various shades, as well as sequins and glitter to add that holiday dazzle to your nails. Ciate became known for their caviar polish, which is also included in this set! 24 days of nail art fun won’t make Christmas so difficult to wait for will it? This advent calendar can be found at Sephora for $69.00.

5) Countdown to Love

Benefit, Cosmetics, Beauty, Cosmetics, Advent Calendar

Last, but most definitely not least, we have an advent calendar by a brand  that every girl I know loves to love – Benefit Cosmetics! Their Countdown to Love Advent Calendar contains 24 little treasures that I have no doubt we will all fall head over heels for. The treasures vary from eye cream, to eye liner, to a lovely charm bracelet and bow barrette. You can find out more details about this lovely set on the Benefit website. I recommend you don’t wait too long as this item is already sold out online! Hurry in to purchase this advent calendar at Sephora for $68.00.

Those are my top 5 advent calendars for the 2013 holiday season! Hope you liked my suggestions as much as I do. Let me know which one you got in the comments below!

50 Shades of Vain | The Vanity Events

13 Aug

50 Shades of Vain Collage 3On August 3, 2013, I got sexy and vain at a fabulous and fun event by The Vanity Events called “50 Shades of Vain”. How appropriate! Held at Berlin Nightclub in Vaughan, the venue was perfect for this event as it featured a burlesque bar like new look and a gorgeous patio. This ladies only event encouraged us to enjoy in the little pleasures we love most; such as decadent chocolate sampling, delicious wine, sexy treats, massages and much more!

50 Shades of Vain Collage 1The very sweet Eliza Sipin and Karen Viray, owners of The Vanity Events, treated us to my very own booth at the event; which had very special treats for my guests and I. My very good friend, Theresa TK, joined me at the event along with the lovely Sandy T. and Bisma Bhatti.  We ladies had a very fun time which included our very own red and white wine bottles of STLTO Wine (which I fell in love with!), a delicious 3 dip appetizer from Berlin Nightclub and exclusive VIP bags. We could not have asked for a better girl’s night out! The fun continued when we got our makeup touched up by Sicilianna Beauty, hand massages from BMK, wine sampling from STLTO Wine, tanning demos by Tan on the Run, sexy treats from The Stag Shop, and chocolate tasting from Succulent Chocolates. The chocolates really caught my attention since one of their samples was a dark chocolate from Peru – how could I not indulge in the chocolate of my people?! (In case you didn’t know…I was born in Peru!).

50 Shades of Vain Collage 2Elevate Magazine was the publication sponsor for 50 Shades of Vain which also featured sexy advice from sexologists Dr. Jessica O’Reilly and Dr.  Stephen de Wit. After all, a lady can never be too educated and informed when it comes to sexual health!

We got a chance to speak with Sarah Liberatore, Founder and Marketing Director of STLTO Wine, who gave us some insight on her company and winery; which we were delighted to find out is run by an all women team. We spoke about wine pairing and how wine compliments various tastes ranging from chocolate to heels (Yes, heels!). We tasted the STLTO Malbec Merlot, STLTO Unoaked Chardonnay and the STLTO Pinot Grigio. We loved them all! But my fave definitely was the Malbec Merlot as I am more of a red wine kind of gal!

50 Shades of Vain was a fabulous event which created an excellent atmosphere to mingle with the girls and celebrate our vanity, confidence and sexyness! After all, every woman is sexy and vain in her own way!

Nine Beauty Lounge Launch

1 Aug

As women, we are constantly reminded how essential volume filled, long and fluttery eyelashes are to our beauty. Whether we flip through a magazine or watch TV, mascara commercials are truly inevitable.

Which one is going to make our lashes look the longest?
Which one is going to give us the most volume?
Which one is the most waterproof?

How blissful would it be if we could completely ignore those advertisements without thinking about whether that product might work for us better than the one we are trying now?

If you are on the same page as I am on this topic, I may just have the solution for you!

On Friday, July 26th, I was invited to attend the launch of Nine Beauty Lounge. They are a chic salon, located in the Port Credit area of Mississauga, that specializes in eyelash and hair extensions.

Nine Beauty Lounge Collage 1At first impression, I was quite impressed with the detail they had paid to the branding of their salon and to their overall look; from decor to their business cards. I must add, that I loved the idea of their wet bar!

The owner, Shellyza, who I was meeting for the first time, was a very welcoming and professional individual. Of course, she was VERY excited about the launch of her salon and the event. I would be too!

So here is the part where we get to the solution I mentioned I had for you!

Nine Beauty Lounge has eyelash extension services which can leave you giggling at your silly past of trying to find the best mascara. The eyelash experts can help you narrow down which type of lashes are best for you and what styles are best; depending on what look you are going for. Some of us may want a more natural look, while others may want to go for a more glam look. If you have any general questions about eyelash extension, or if this is a new idea for you, they may be addressed here.

Nine Beauty Lounge Collage 2
I have gotten eyelash extension in the past and I loved them! The greatest thing about them, that I found, was all the time I saved when it came to getting ready; whether it was to head to the office or go out with friends. It was as easy as adding some colour to your cheeks, lipgloss and I was ready to go! As I’m sure you can tell, it won’t take much for me to make an appointment at Nine Beauty Lounge. I am really looking forward to it!

Wondering what the cost would be to getting your eyelashes done at Nine Beauty Lounge? I know you are. I definitely did, since that is something I take into consideration with all the services I try or get regularly.  See the pricing below:

Their full lounge menu can also be found here. Keep in mind that after you get the first set done, the refill price is lower and, as mentioned on their website, you can go on average about 2 to 3 weeks until you need the next refill. Yet as you gain more experience maintaining your lashes, you may be able to extend that time period between refills.

I’m So Vain Deux!

30 Jul

On Sunday, July 21, 2013, I attended the I’m So Vain Deux soiree by The Vanity Events. I have attended their events in the past, such as the first I’m so Vain event which was held back in July, 2011, so I knew without a doubt this was not to be missed!

Sponsored by Schwarzkopf Canada and Elevate Magazine, the event was held at the chic Cove Thirtyone in Toronto. In the usual I’m so vain fashion, stations were set up by various vendors where the guests could be treated to various treatments; such as make up application, brow consultations, hair styling and much more.

The lovely Eliza Sipin, along with Karen Viray, produced a fabulous event with a fabulous mix of networking and the celebration of all things vain! I got the opportunity to:

– Get my hair styled by Solo Bace professional stylists with, one of my preferred hair product brands, Schwarzkopf Professional Canada.
– Get a brow consultation by the knowledgeable ladies from The Brow House, who left my brows looking fierce!
– Speak to the co-founders of Fashion Forward, who told me all about their local clothing classified services.
– Taste treats from Three Works Snacks & Chips – I LOVED the apple chips!
– Get my make up done by a very talented make-up artist, Rebecca Godfrey, who got creative with a gorgeous bronze smokey eye look on my lids!

Other vendors present were Lash Addict by Sherri Wu and Bio Seaweed Gel, who we did not get an opportunity to visit this time around; yet I have experienced Sherri Wu’s lash magic in the past and there is no doubt she leave you looking fabulously! I have heard great comments about Bio Seaweed Gel and I am definitely interested in trying them out in the near future. This event has so much to do, yet I had so little time! So if you ever do attend any of these, I definitely recommend you arrive early!

I'm So Vain Deux Collage 2 I would like to thank Eliza Ilaika of The Vanity Events for inviting us and for being such a wonderful host! I definitely recommend you attend one of these events in the near future – they are perfect for a ladies night out! Take a look at The Vanity Events website at for more information about their upcoming events; which are not only held in the downtown Toronto core, but around the GTA as well – which is definitely a plus! If you and you girls attend one of the upcoming events, let me know! I would love to meet you  and/or hear about your experience.

I'm So Vain Deux Collage 3

I will be at their upcoming 50 Shades of Vain event at Berlin Nightclub this upcoming Saturday, August 3rd. THIS is the event for a ladies night out!  Especially since following the event you can keep the party going at the venue! Find out more info here. See you there!

I’m SO Vain!

17 Jul

Ladies, singles and in groups, dashed into Vogue Supperclub on Saturday, June 25th for the much anticipated “I’m So Vain” event organized by V:Space Studio and Ilaika. All attendees, dressed in their most fashionable spring/summer outfits while all dolled-up, looked very excited to arrive to the event that encouraged them to embrace and celebrate beauty procedures and treatments beyond a visit to Sephora or MAC Cosmetics.

The main goal of the event was to educate and allow women to indulge in different services and procedures directly from the professionals. Some of the companies in attendance were Winks Eyelash Boutique, Skin Spa & Cosmetic Clinic Malibu Sugar, Beautifully Bare Hi-Tech Spa, and Live It Up Events. The services ranged from laser hair removal to eyelash extensions to even botox parties; which definitely allowed us ladies to embrace our oh-so-vain characteristics.

The guests walked along booth to booth in order to get, not only information about different treatments and products, but special one time only guest offers that many ladies took advantage of. The guest also enjoyed delicious oh d’ouvres and drinks to influence mingling and discussing of the event and what it had to offer. The event also had a special Diet Coke trailer, partnered with Joe Fresh, which had a lounge set up for ladies to touch up their look as they continued to enjoy the event; and of course, were handed Diet Cokes in the cutest little glass
bottles to keep everyone’s thirst quenched! The trailer displayed some pieces
from the Joe Fresh “Fresh off the Runway” collection for ladies to look

The event most definitely allowed women to come together and celebrate beauty treatments, that may seem god’s gifts to some but taboo to others; but most importantly encouraged the guests to be educated on safe and professionally performed treatments. For more information on this event and for a full vendor list, you can check out the official I’m So Vain Blog by clicking
. So remember ladies, when we feel the need to be oh-so vain and try
out some of these procedures, ensure that you are well educated and don’t ever
be shy to ask questions!

“Less is More” With Celebrity Make-Up Artist Paul Venoit

21 Apr

On Thursday, April 19th, 2011 we attended an event at the ROM with special guest celebrity make-up artist  and beauty expert Paul Venoit. The night was brought to us by High Road Communications and hosted by the lovely Gail McInnes of Magnet Creative. It was a private and exclusive event to raise awareness and promote a new product that will aid us in dealing with terrible cold sores which turned out to be a truly wonderful gathering of some wonderful people in the industry. The event promoting ColdSoreFX, from the makers of the life saving ColdFX,  brought out Theresa Kim of YYZ Living Magazine, Septembre Anderson of J’Adore Fashion Blog, as well as Ally Lesniak and Dani Goddard of GirlsofTO.

Paul Venoit & Myself

Paul Venoit informed us during his presentation as to how to treat cold sores, which turn out to be a more common  than we think issue when it comes to make up artistry. His message was “Less is more!”; in the case of a cold sore we must lightly brush over it with a concealer fading it away rather than covering it up. Paul also made it clear that we must never, ever bring out red or pink lipsticks or glosses in an attempt to camouflage them since that will fail miserably! Following his presentation the attendees of the event were invited to get make-up touch ups by one of Paul Venoit’s leading make-up professionals, who by the way did a brilliant job. We then proceeded to take picture and mingle with Paul who is a delightful individual, full of energy and fun.

Paul Venoit of Look-A-Like (the TV Show), who has worked with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift, educated us against the stereotypes and myths of cold sores that many people have relating them to sexually transmitted diseases or infections; which is in fact not true. They can happen to anyone at any point in time and it is important that we learn about them and learn how to treat them. Paul Venoit has tried out the new product Cold Sore FX and swears by it since according to his conclusion through using the product it is effective and it works! So if cold sores are an issue for you always remember, beauty expert Paul Venoit finds it very effective and when it comes to coverage, less is more!
